About E.M.P.O.W.E.R.
E.M.P.O.W.E.R. is a comprehensive, cohort-based program designed to support foreign-trained women in Edmonton, as they navigate pathways to employment, entrepreneurship, or further education. Through a blend of self-introspection, tailored workshops, networking, and mentorship, participants gain self-awareness, build confidence, and make informed decisions that shape fulfilling and sustainable career paths by breaking barriers, fueling job satisfaction, and driving long-term success.
The program is free of charge and includes supports such as childcare and transportation.
Why This Matters
Many highly skilled newcomer women face persistent intersectional barriers, such as, but not limited to, lack of Canadian work experience, limited labour market knowledge, and constrained networks, which often lead to underemployment and job dissatisfaction. E.M.P.O.W.E.R. addresses these barriers by helping participants align their strengths and interests with suitable career paths, resulting in improved job satisfaction and retention. Research and AHC’s experience show that informed career decisions, made with the right support, are key to breaking down systemic barriers and fostering long-term economic integration and personal growth.
