Beyond ERIN: Alberta’s Network of Regional Innovation Networks

Did you know that ERIN is not the only Regional Innovation Network in Alberta?

The Edmonton Regional Innovation Network (ERIN) plays a vital role in supporting innovators and entrepreneurs in the Edmonton region — but it is part of a larger, province-wide family of Regional Innovation Networks (RINs) that together make up the Alberta Innovation Network. These networks are all community-based, entrepreneur-centric ecosystems supported by Alberta Innovates to help technology and knowledge-based ventures start, grow, and succeed across Alberta.

Across the province, there are eight RINs, each serving a specific region and providing locally tailored programs, business advisory services, ecosystem connections, and support designed to accelerate innovation and economic diversification.

Here’s a snapshot of the other RINs you should know about:

  • Calgary Innovation Coalition – supports entrepreneurs and innovation-led ventures in the Calgary region, connecting them with programs and partners to scale and succeed.

  • Central Alberta Regional Innovation Network  – assists innovators and startups across central Alberta with tools and services for commercialization and growth.

  • East Central Alberta Regional Innovation Network – offering supports and ecosystem connections for innovators in the east central region.

  • Wood Buffalo Regional Innovation Network – focused on strengthening innovation and entrepreneurial activity in the Wood Buffalo region.

  • Innovate Northwest Regional Innovation Network – serving northwest Alberta with access to resources, expertise, and connections that help innovators advance their solutions.

  • APEX: Southeast Alberta Regional Innovation Network – supporting innovation and SME development in the southeast, driving entrepreneurial capacity and regional economic growth.

  • Regional Innovation Network of Southern Alberta – a collaborative network of partner organizations offering guidance and support for technology and knowledge-based entrepreneurs in southern Alberta.

Together with ERIN and the other networks, these RINs form a province-wide innovation support system where Alberta’s innovators and entrepreneurs can access tailored guidance, funding pathways, ecosystem partners, and growth-oriented programming — wherever they are in the province.
